251. Will you love me?
      "Will you love me?"
     she asked
As he walked out the door -
     his back to her
"Of course," he replied,
     but didn't turn around
He kept walking down the path,
And she couldn't help but
     admire him.
Still, she couldn't drop that
     nagging feeling -
A feeling of losing someone
     so dear to you
Your life could crumble around
     you if left alone.
She stood at the door,
Gazing at his shrinking figure,
till he was long out of sight.
With a sigh, she turned to go in -
     but changed her mind.
She sprinted down the path -
Her hair flowing and being
     blown by the wind.
She ran as fast as her little
     legs could carry her,
But still it didn't seem fast enough.
Her breath was short,
     but she kept going -
Her face one of determination.
As she approached the path
     she knew he'd take,
She darted through the forest -
careful not to be seen.
She slowed her speed when the
     dock came into view.
She scanned the shoreline,
     looking for his boat.
Itwasn't to be seen.
Puzzled, she approached the dock,
wondering if she missed the boat.
She asked people, but no one knew
     anything.
Then she asked an elderly man
     with an eye patch
"Ya I know him," he replied with
     an East Coast drawl.
"He works for me, but we ain't
     leaving for another two weeks."
She replied with a polite thank-you,
     more confused than ever.
As she walked away he asked how
     the kid was.
Now she was startled -
They never had a child,
     he didn't like them.
She continued on her path
     back home -
Wandering aimlessly in
    such a daze.
It started to rain, the drops
     getting harder and faster -
But still she took no notice.
'What did that captain mean?
     Did he mistake my husband
     for another sailor?
Did he mistake me for someone
     else?'
Her thoughts were interrupted by
     an all too familiar voice.
He was saying to hurry up before
     they got all soaked.
She turned and saw a woman
     and child following close
     behind him.
He reached out and scooped
     the child in his arms,
     tenderly taking the woman
     by her hand.
Tears started to well up
     in her eyes,
Her vision got blurry
And her insides hurt.
She turned back and
     ran all the way home.
Little did she know that he
     caught a glimpse of her.
Late that night after his
     family fell asleep,
He snuck out and walked
the short path to her -
     their- house.
Opening the door he creeped
     inside, his eyes adjusting
     to the dark.
Only then did he see the shape -
     that horrid shape -
A body haning by the ceiling,
     swaying back and forth.
Her eyes were open -
The pupils seemed to be fixed on him.
They seemed to scream,
"I always loved you,
What do you have to say to that?"
He couldn't take it anymore.
He turned around,
Closing the door behind him.
He walked back home -
Kissed his child on the cheek,
Curled into bed with his
     loving wife,
And slept a very peaceful
     and quiet night away.
