59. Friendships Like This are Mean to Last: Ode to an Ex-Best Friend

Friendships like this are
mean to last.
Why did ours deteriorate so fast?
You said we grew apart
but I don't think that's true.
Something went wrong I wonder,
but what did I do?
We got along fine;
We grew together over time.
Every night we'd talk and sometimes
we'd even go for a walk.
Over the summer everything changed.
No more talking on the phone.
Your excuse - I'm never home.
You yourself said we were like sisters.
I'm your best friend and it would always
stay that way.
You said you'd make sure we'd never separate -
but look what happened.
Many of our memories gave us a
lifetime of friendship
Now they're all down the drain -
No more playing tennis; no more orange
popsicles.
Instead of sunshine, there's only rain.
I never wanted this, but according to you
we just grew apart.
Best friends never grow apart, only
closer together,
But I've been replaced.
Something went wrong and I'll
never know.
Eight years of friendship deteriorated
so fast -
I thought friendships liek this
were meant to last.
